The 2024 Louisiana high school football season has flown by to this point, with Week Nine on the horizon this week. Championships are still up in the air for anyone to and two East Baton Rouge teams are both vying to remain alive in the District 4-5A title race this week.
The Central Wildcats are coming off a 35-20 victory over the Liberty Patriots last week. Already having lost a district game when they fell to Catholic two weeks ago, this game serves as a de facto elimination game for the Wildcats as a loss would put them at two district losses on the year. A win for the Wildcats would ironically make them Zachary fans heading into next week, as, with a win this week, Central would need Zachary to beat Catholic next week to force a three-way tie for the 4-5A title.
Zachary comes in as one of two unbeaten teams in 4-5A competition, along with the Catholic Bears. A win this week will keep Zachary unbeaten in district play and essentially force a district title game against Catholic next week, assuming the Bears defeat Woodlawn this week. A loss, though, would not eliminate Zachary from title contention as a win next week against Catholic could still force a three-way tie for the 4-5A title between the Bears, Broncos, and Wildcats.
